Rural small town located in the citrus-growing district.
As a small, unincorporated community, Citra is a rural town with a surprising amount of things to do and see. It's a popular spot for tourists, although not to the point that it detracts from its peaceful, quiet reputation.
Perhaps one of the biggest attractions to Citra is its natural beauty. With many wide-open spaces, rolling hills, citrus groves, and sparkling lakes, Citra is a gorgeous place to live. Plus, it's home to the pineapple orange, a special fruit that looks like an orange but smells like a pineapple!

Founded in 1881, Citra is a picturesque town with a surprisingly rich history. It even has two different buildings on the National Register of Historic Places—the Citra Methodist Episcopal Church and the Armstrong House. Citra is also home to the plant research facility of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
Families and retirees flock to Citra since it’s a very friendly place to live with a warm community. It's a sleepy, cozy town where you can buy some of the best orange juice in all of Florida.
If you're shopping in or near Longo Plaza and are searching for a great place to grab a quick bite to eat, Ted's Restaurant is a fantastic option. Fish tacos, grilled salmon, and Greek salad are some of the locals’ favorite dishes at Ted's, but there is a wide variety of options on the menu! It's an adorable eatery with vibrant green walls that add to the overall warmth of the restaurant.
For classic home country cooking and excellent all-day breakfast specials, Grammy's Diner is a must! Daily lunch specials keep regulars coming back for more—as do their special shrimp and gator tail meals! On Saturday nights, they offer a prime rib special and their prices are always fair. Plus, the atmosphere couldn’t be friendlier.
Bryan's Pizza is another place you should add to your favorites list, especially if you need a break from chain pizza joints. Delivering fresh pies every day, they offer customizable pizzas at great prices.
Looking for beautiful views while you dine? Then Eagles Nest is the best place for you to grab lunch with friends. Sit on their outdoor patio while overlooking the Grand Lake and dine on a burger or artisan sandwich while immersing yourself in the great outdoors.
Open for business every fruit season since 1936, The Orange Shop is a Citra staple. Owners Pete and Sandy Spyke are dedicated citrus farmers with a passion for oranges! Marion County and the Indian River area are two of the most famous places for orange groves, meaning the fruit here is always delectable and extra fresh.
They sell everything from shipping packages of their stellar tangerines, oranges, grapefruits, and more to jellies, dressings, sweet treats, and beyond.
As the name suggests, Jeeptoberfest is an epic, jeep-only event—the only one in the Southeast. It also doubles as an annual fundraiser with a raffle and huge block party.
On the weekends, Coon Hollo is a great place for family fun with inclusive activities for all ages. There's a petting zoo, holiday events, and mazes to solve with your children! The corn maze is definitely the farm's biggest claim to fame but there is also plenty to do all year-round.
Considering the agrarian nature of Citra, it's not surprising there are multiple farms in the area. Aside from Coon Hollo, Wet Hammock Farm is another local farm that specializes in berry-picking. Crops vary by season, but they offer the chance for visitors to pick their own peaches, blackberries, strawberries, flowers, and more.
A few minutes north of Citra is the McIntosh Festival, a huge staple for Ocala residents. This festival has live music, hundreds of arts and crafts vendors, and tons of delicious food.
